Britten’s Les Illuminations with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra

Andrew Manze returns to Scotland to conduct the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in performances at Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall and Glasgow’s City Halls on 18 and 19 January 2018. The concerts mark the continuing of a relationship described by the Arts Desk in March 2017 as “remarkably incisive”.

In these two concerts, Manze conducts the orchestra in a programme centred on the Britten song cycle Les Illuminations, which is performed by soprano Sarah Fox. Frank Martin Passacaille, and a Manze arrangement of Purcell Prelude to the Bell Anthem are also on the programme, which closes with Vaughan Williams Symphony No.5.

Manze was described by the Daily Telegraph as the “best conductor of Vaughan Williams alive today. Click here to watch him conduct the symphony with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Earlier in the month, Manze returns to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for two concerts with pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin on 11 and 12 January.
