Andrew Manze unites the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic & NDR Radiophilharmonie to perform Britten War Requiem
Andrew Manze unites 300 musicians and choristers from Britain and Germany in two performances of Britten War Requiem this month on 4 and 10 November. Manze brings together the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover and choristers from Liverpool Cathedral and Hannover’s Knabenchor for two special concerts in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One. The first performance takes place in Hannover’s Kuppelsaal on Sunday 4 November, and the second one week later on Saturday 10 November, the day before Remembrance Sunday, in Liverpool Cathedral.
Liverpool and Hannover are bound together as UNESCO Cities of Music, and Manze is both Principal Guest Conductor of the RLPO and Chief Conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover.
Manze stated: “For me, uniting orchestras and musicians, choirs and children’s choirs from Britain and Germany, all of whom I’m privileged to work with regularly, has profound symbolism as once hostile countries come together to rehearse and perform Britten’s landmark War Requiem.”
The concert in Hannover on 3 November will be streamed live on the NDR website.
