“…unsurpassed, and quite possibly unsurpassable.” The Telegraph reviews Vaughan Williams Symphony Cycle

Andrew Manze’s recordings of Vaughan Williams’ complete symphony cycle with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) has received received a glowing review in The Telegraph, with Simon Heffer commending the recording’s “clarity of sound” as well as Manze’s “superior understanding” of the works:

“The cycle just completed by Andrew Manze and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic on Onyx is in my view unsurpassed, and quite possibly unsurpassable…When I listen to Manze’s recordings, I feel that, were the composer to hear them, he would instinctively feel they say what he sought to say, but also say things he had barely realised he was articulating…[It] is no feat of engineering: [Manze] does it in live performance, thanks to his superior understanding of the texture of a work. As a result, he has further elevated Vaughan Williams’s stature as a symphonist…No one who wishes to understand the greatness of Vaughan Williams should be without these recordings.”
