Andrew Manze conducts the BBC Proms’ Beethoven Night

Andrew Manze brings the NDR Radophilharmonie to the BBC Proms on 13 September for a concert centered around the music of Beethoven. As the NDR Radiophilharmonie’s debut appearance at the BBC Proms, and first London appearance since November 2017, the concert marks a major milestone in Andrew’s five-year tenure.

Continuing the Proms’ founder Henry Wood’s tradition of an annual Beethoven-themed evening, the revolutionary Fifth Symphony provides the climax of a programme that also includes music from Fidelo and the aria Ah! perfido, both performed by soprano Elizabeth Watts. Andrew presents these works alongside Handel Music for the Royal Fireworks, as well as Elgar’s orchestration of Fantasia and Fugue in C minor for organ; bringing together both Henry Wood and Beethoven’s shared love of Bach.

The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and NDR Kultur in Germany, both featuring interviews with Andrew during the interval.
